Carl McCormick and Florida Baptist Children’s Home

Posted in Auto Racing on December 12th, 2007 by CameraGuy

JustPlainRacin.com LogoThe Christmas season can be a magical time of year for children.  ARCA RE/MAX Series driver Carl McCormick is making sure that the children of the Florida Baptist Children’s Home have a magical Christmas as well.  The Florida Baptist Children’s Home was founded in 1901 and provides a wide variety of services for children in need.

Carl McCormick, a driver with 16 ARCA RE/MAX starts to his credit, came in contact with the organization in 2006.  “I did some work for the home last year and the kids really touched my heart” states McCormick “I knew that I needed to do something to help these kids.”  McCormick contacted Joe Wells and Ron Drager of ARCA and a visit to the December 2006 testing session was arranged.  This year’s Florida Baptist Children’s Home excursion was expanded with the help of ARCA’s Daren Havens.  Havens arranged for the children to visit the “Daytona 500 Experience”, a racing museum with many hands-on activities for visitors.

The children will get a special one-hour session where they meet their favorite ARCA RE/MAX Series drivers and will get to view the cars and ask questions.  “Most stock car racing fans never get the chance to spend time in a major superspeedway garage, maybe this experience will serve as an inspiration to the children” stated the Jacksonville, Florida based McCormick “they can actually view major league stock car racing at eye level.”  ARCA RE/MAX Series competitors Andy Belmont and James Hylton will also provide racing related items for the children.

“Last year the children really enjoyed talking with the drivers, especially Bobby Gerhart and Andy Belmont” stated McCormick.  The children will also be treated to a lunch and a movie after their Daytona experience.
